I find there is a sudden burst of understanding of Twitter when one follows a few dozen Tweeters. Until one moves past the obvious circle-of-friends, most just don't get the value. I also find the younger generation, being comprised of digital natives, doesn't have a problem with instantly following many "strangers," so, Twitter should target Gen Y's and teach them somehow. Although, I'm sure we're doing that, right here, right now.

Thanks, Lisa! I'm glad to hear you found the article helpful. http://twittersnooze.com/ is one service that can help to temporarily "switch off" a Twitter user whose tweets you don't want to follow right now but don't want to completely stop following.

I literally just stumbled upon your blog in my search for Twitter info. I'm fairly new to Twitter and I've already experienced what your co-worker complained to you about (thus my search for more info on how to Twitter). Anyway, thanks for an informative and thoughtful article - very helpful!
